Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our extended boat warranty coverage, claims process, and policy terms.

A marine service agreement (often referred to as an extended boat warranty) protects you against the high cost of unexpected mechanical and electrical breakdowns after your manufacturer’s factory warranty expires or when buying a pre-owned vessel. It covers parts and labor costs for covered component failures, saving you from major out-of-pocket repair bills.

We cover a wide range of motorized marine vessels, including:
  • Bowriders and Center Consoles
  • Pontoon and Deck Boats
  • Fishing and Bass Boats
  • Wakeboard and Ski Boats
  • Cabin Cruisers and Yachts
  • Personal Watercraft (PWCs / Jet Skis)

Depending on your specific plan level (such as Stated or Complete coverage), coverage typically includes major systems such as:
  • Engine & Internal Components: Inboard, outboard, and sterndrive engines, block, pistons, crankshaft, and water pump.
  • Lower Unit & Drives: Transmission, stern drive upper/lower units, trim and tilt assemblies.
  • Fuel & Electrical Systems: Fuel injectors, pumps, alternators, starter motors, and main wiring harnesses.
  • Steering & Controls: Hydraulic/cable steering units, throttle control mechanisms.
  • Onboard Electronics & Accessories: Navigation equipment, depth finders, stereos, and freshwater/bilge pumps (where selected).

Yes. Your policy features nationwide coverage. You can take your watercraft to any licensed marine repair shop, certified dealership, or marina in the United States or Canada.

We issue direct payouts to the repair facility. Once the claim is approved by our claims team, we pay the repair shop directly over the phone or electronically. You don't have to pay thousands up front and wait for a reimbursement check—you only pay your agreed deductible.

Filing a claim is simple:
  1. Take your vessel to a licensed marine repair facility.
  2. Have the technician contact our Claims Department at 855-765-0935 or via email at claims@americasboatwarranty.com before starting any teardown or repair work.
  3. Review & Approval: Our team evaluates the estimate. Once approved, the technician completes the repair, and we pay them directly upon completion.

Yes. Most plans include a small, fixed deductible per visit (such as $150). You only pay your designated deductible to the repair facility upon picking up your vessel; we cover the remaining balance for all approved repairs.

Yes, standard plans include a 30-day waiting period from the agreement purchase date. This helps keep overall policy costs low for all boat owners by ensuring pre-existing conditions are excluded.

Yes! An extended service agreement adds substantial resale value to your boat. Most policies are fully transferable to the new private owner for a small administrative fee, giving the buyer immediate peace of mind.

Yes. We offer flexible, interest-free payment options and financing plans to make protecting your boat easy on your budget.

Like all marine service agreements, routine maintenance items, cosmetic damage, wear-and-tear items (like spark plugs, impellers, batteries, fuses, and canvas covers), environmental damage, and pre-existing conditions are not covered. Regular maintenance must be maintained per manufacturer guidelines.
